Qualifiers is a three-hour Top Rope Classic Redpoint Format for all Non-Youth divisions. (i.e. climbers can attempt all climbs in the gym, rather than climbs being assigned to certain divisions)
Points are awarded for reaching the top of a route without falls or takes.
You will have a maximum of 3 attempts per climb.
Scores will be based on your top 5 finished routes, with total attempts breaking ties.
The top 3 competitors (plus ties) after the qualifying round will move on to finals.
All new routes will be set for this competition.
Finals is an Onsight Round Format for all divisions in the Morning and Afternoon sessions.
This means climbers will get a route preview, but will not be allowed to watch each other climb.
Climbers will remain in an isolation area until their turn.
The top 3 competitors (plus ties) in each division will climb one route to determine final placement.
Recreational and Intermediate divisions will top rope their finals route.
Advanced and Open divisions will lead their finals route.
Scoring will be:
Each hold is worth one point.
Competitors earn points for the following:
Controlling a hold on route
Touching the usable surface of the next hold on the route
Making positive movement from a controlled hold
Should there be a tie for 1st place, Qualifying scores will break ties. If there is still a tie, Climb Iowa staff will select another route as a super final. Ties for second and third will be shared.
Note: Final route will be progressive (e.g. the advanced final could start at 5.9 and finish at 5.11d).
All competitors will be entered in a raffle that will occur before the finals round.
The top three finishers in each division will receive Climb Iowa gift cards.
Amounts based on participation.
